Description

  • Francesco Cairo
  • A woman holding a bucket, possibly the Samaritan woman at the well
  • oil on canvas, a fragment

Provenance

Private collection, Germany.

Condition

The canvas, which has an old and loose relining, is likely the right half of a larger composition. It is offered in a modern painted black frame in good condition. The painting is dirty with a hole visible lower centre and other small losses but otherwise in good condition. A horizontal seam can be made out in the lower half of the painting. Two small cleaning tests have been opened in the hand and shoulder. Inspection under UV light reveals scattered old retouchings. Would benefit from a clean.
