Description
- The Madonna and Child holding a goldfinch
- oil on canvas
Condition
The painting is a little less red in colour than the catalogue illustration suggests. The relining is quite old, has retained its bounce, and has not adversely affected the paint surface which appears to the naked eye to be in dirty but good overall condition. While some thin craquelure is present throughout, here are no apparent structural damages. Three small surface scratches can be seen at centre and centre right, as visible in the catalogue illustration. Inspection under UV light is somewhat hindered by the slightly opaque varnish, but it reveals old retouchings in the figures.
Offered in a wood and plaster gilt frame in fair condition.
