Anonymous sale, London, Sotheby's, 11 April 1990, lot 34, for £38,000.

Condition

The canvas has a firm relining. The paint surface is secure, clean and in good condition, if somewhat flattened, under a glossy varnish. The details of the figure group lower right are nicely preserved. Inspection under UV light is generally impeded by the varnish although some old retouching work is evident along the upper margin and in the clouds and some scattered minor, more recent, localised retouchings are evident in the centre left tree and the figures. Offered in a gilt wood and plaster frame in good condition.
