Catalogue Note
Jan Wijnants’ atmospheric views of the Dutch countryside were enormously popular with English 18th-century collectors, as attested to by the early provenance of this painting. Dutch landscape collectors of this period ranked the artist alongside such masters as Jacob van Ruisdael, Salomon van Ruysdael and Meindert Hobbema.
