Catalogue Note
The master, who was first identified by Gianni Papi, was strongly influenced by the young Ribera and other artists active in Rome in the years immediately following Caravaggio's death.1 Compare the Drinking Man sold in Lucerne, Fischer, 24 November 1995 (canvas, 95 by 75 cm.).2
