Description

  • Pieter Casteels III
  • A still life in a formal garden setting with fruit spilling out of a basket set on a stone ledge, a spaniel and dead game on the ground beneath
  • oil on canvas

Condition

The canvas has been relined and recently cleaned and restored. The paint surface appears to be in good overall condition, with no major damages or repairs in evidence. Inspection under ultra violet light reveals a certain number of retouchings throughout, especially in the darks of the background and foreground. There is an old 4 x 1 repaired loss on the head of the duck and the kingfisher wings have been repainted, but most other retouchings are to details or washing over of the background. The varnish is very shiny and still clear and the painting will not require any further attention. This lot is sold unframed.
