Description
- A still life of an apple, a pear, walnuts and a glass roemer on a stone ledge
- oil on panel
Condition
The painting is lighter in colour and warmer in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The support consists of one single, flat, oak panel which is bevelled along thre edges (not the lower edge), though there is no reason to suppose the panel has been reduced in size. Under the slightly discoloured varnish the paint surface appears secure, with the impasto well preserved. To the naked eye it would seem that several areas of the draker tones in the background and lower part of the table have been retouched. Some strengthenings in the edge and black highlights of the pear appear to have been strengthened. Inspection under UV light does not show up any of the background retouchings under the glossy varnish, though the strenghenings on the pear do flouresce. Further localised retouchings can be made out in the walnuts, in the plate, roemer, and apple. Offered in a carved wooden frame in fair condition, with some minor knocks.
