Description
- Jakob Bogdány
- A still life with fruit, parrots and a cockatoo
- signed lower right: J. Bogdani
- oil on canvas, in a carved and gilt wood frame
- 31in by 43in
Condition
The canvas has a firm, relatively recent relining which has somewhat flattened the paint surface, which is otherwise secure with the details and pigments nicely preserved under a clean even varnish. Areas of wear are evident in the darker pigments of the foliage, the darker browns of the background tree, melon and architecture far right as well as in the blackbird upper centre and the beak of the white parrot. The lighter, brighter pigments of the fruit and birds are better preserved. Old retouching work is discernible to the naked eye under close examination in the aforementioned abraded areas and these are confirmed under UV light which also reveals minor scattered retouchings elsewhere.
Offered in a gilt wood and plaster frame in good condition.
