Description
- Nicola Casissa
- An elaborate still life with a fountain and classical statues, flowers in a vase, a parrot and various fruits spilt from an upturned bowl, all in an elegant park setting
- oil on canvas
Condition
The canvas has a recent firm relining which has somewhat flattened the paint surface, so that in some areas the red ground is showing through. The paint surface is secure and the details, although not the definition, of the original paint are well preserved under a glossy varnish, particularly the central still life element.
Inspection under UV light reveals significant old repainting throughout, most notably in the background but the central still life element is almost entirely original and untouched.
Offered in plain gilt wood and painted frame, structurally sounds with some losses.
