Description

  • Jacob Andries Beschey
  • Saint John the Baptist preaching
  • oil on panel, unframed

Condition

The flat, stable support consists of two horizontal panels joined to the reverse and bevelled on all four edges. There is an old split along the left hand edge of the panel join, approx. 12 cm. long as visible in the catalogue illustration and an area of old wear to the paint surface on the centre left margin again visible in the catalogue illustration. The paint surface is secure, with some scattered minor surface scratches, and in fairly good condition under an even varnish. Inspection under UV light reveals some old scattered retouchings, most notably to the darker pigments of the trees and foliage. Offered unframed.
