Condition

The canvas has an old relining which is still sound. the painting has recently been cleaned restored and is in excellent condition overall. Inspection under ultra violet light reveals only two minor damages: a 3 x 1 vertical area of repair on the extreme right margin in the sky upper right, and a 1 x 3 cm area of repair on the edge of the basin in the left foreground. Apart from this intervention is limited to only tiny local touchings out around the top of the dress and the sitter's face where the surface is very lightly worn, and to some parts of the background behind. The varnish remains clear and even and the painting will not reuire further attention. Offered with a modern ebonised wood frame with gilt sight edge in very good condition.
