Description
- Louis Bordelet
- A village wedding
- signed lower left: L.Bordelet fecit and indistinctly dated 16(?47)
- oil on canvas
Provenance
Anonymous sale, Monaco, Christie's, 3 December 1988, lot 34, where acquired by the present owner.
Condition
The catalogue illustration is a little too cool and too red in tone. The canvas has a fairly recent relining which is sound and stable. The painting has been restored in the past and appears in very good overall condition, with no major damages and only occasional signs of wear in the centre and parts of the sky. Inspection under ultra violet light revals only scattered local retouchings to details of the figures and background, such as the red coat of the dancing man in the foreground which has been restored. The restoration is not obtrusive to the naked eye. The varnish remains clear and even and the painting should require no further intervention.
Offered with a later gilt plaster frame, some minor damages to one corner.
