Condition

Laid down on a modern piece of card, attached by the top margin to the mount. Light brown foxing stains scattered across the sheet. Sold in a Louis XVI style gilded frame.

Catalogue Note

Mallet is best known for his images of stylish Parisian society, frequently with erotic overtones.  In later works he was influenced by the neoclassical movement, and produced scenes in Antique settings such as the present example.  Another, Helen and Paris, was sold New York, Sotheby's, 23 January 2001, lot 339.
