  • Pen and brown ink and watercolour with touches of gouache over traces of black chalk, within brown wash framing lines, on vellum;
    signed and dated, in pen and brown ink, lower left: huet fils. an. 1809 and inscribed, lower right: 1/4, also inscribed on the back of board, in pen and brown ink: Panthère Mâle / par huet, peintre du muséum l'histoire naturelle de Paris.

Condition

Vellum laid down on board. In excellent condition. Some yellow staining at lower margin but otherwise colours remain vibrant and fresh. Sold in a simple wood frame.

Nicolas Huet, son of Jean-Baptiste Huet, was official painter to the Musée d'Histoire Naturelle et de la Ménagerie of the Empress Josephine, and specialised in painting animals and plants.  See also lot 73.
