Catalogue Note
Whilst it has not been possible to connect the present drawing to one of Ricci's painted compositions, it is typical of his pen and ink and wash studies. His extensive use of wash to build up the composition accompanied by tiny pen strokes to denote areas of foliage and to give definition to buildings are stylistic elements that can be found in many of his landscape drawings. A comparable landscape was sold London, Sotheby's, 22 October 1970, lot 23.
