Catalogue Note

This plant, which is still a considerable British rarity, was first recorded in 1641 by the great botanist Thomas Johnson (d. 1644). It has a striking appearance and can grow to over a metre tall. Until the beginning of the 20th century it was only to be found in Kent.

We would like to thank Fred Rumsey for his help in cataloguing this work.
