Provenance

Bears unidentified collector's mark, verso (L.44a/1123a), associated with drawings by Valckenborch formerly in an album owned by Friedrich von Habsburg-Lorraine (1865-1932);
the album placed by him on deposit at the Albertina, Vienna;
subsequently sold in 1919 to M. Hirsemann, Leipzig;
with Gustav Nebehay, 1928, who dispersed the album;
Ernst Jürgen Otto (L.873b)

Condition

Small repaired tears, bottom right corner and lower left edge. Some light staining and foxing, and paper a little dirty. Ink slightly faded, but still very readable.

Catalogue Note

This must be a previously unidentified sheet from a sketchbook of some 55 topographical views and landscape capricci, made by Valckenborch during a journey through South Germany and the Tyrol in 1598-9.1
