Condition

Laid down. Overall in very good condition. Few brown stains in the sky, the sheet has turned slightly yellow in places. Medium remains fresh and colours vibrant. Sold in a large gilded frame.

This view of the Forum and the following lot were most probably intended as picturesque souvenirs for travellers on the Grand Tour.  Many artists during this period were producing similar large scale works, often intended to be engraved, to satisfy the high demand for Roman views.
