Catalogue Note
This fine, energetic study, in which one really feels the winter wind, can be associated with a number of other drawings, very similar in style and dimensions, which may even originate from a dismembered sketchbook.1 Hans-Ulrich Beck dated these drawings to the mid 1630s, but others have suggested, with good reason, they may be slightly earlier, from around 1627-30.2
