Catalogue Note

When sold in these rooms on April 2, 1996 the present work was to be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonné in preparation by Pierre Miquel.  The present work's authenticity was confirmed by examination of a photograph in September 2007 by Brame & Lorenceau. The work has been included in Schulman and Battaillés 1999 Théodore Rousseau catalogue rasionné (see literature) based on the review of photographs and with the condition that that authenticity may need to be confirmed with further research.  After inspecting the work first hand in Paris in 2007 M. Schulman rejected the present lot as by Rousseau.
