Catalogue Note
Although Curnoe had long made collages as part of his oeuvre, the cutout collages that he created between 1965 and 1968 departed from his previous methods. Rather than framing the collages, he mounted them on cutout, painted wooden shapes, as can be seen here with the moustache shape. These cutout collages were records of Curnoe's daily life and of his interests as he noticed telling artifacts underfoot: litter on the sidewalk, sugar packs, gum wrappers, ticket stubs, etc.
