Catalogue Note
In this painting, Pilot is able to evoke the character of Lunenburg, a small town in Nova Scotia southwest of Halifax and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Pilot captures the quiet beauty of the town, bathed in the bluish light of dusk. Duval notes: "Pilot was a master of twilight, that transient time of day when artificial lamps and natural light are joined in the same vibration ... Pilot found his ideal expression in its soft ambience, using a palette of mauves, greys, and broken blues."
