Catalogue Note

Rare:  Collections of Harmoniemusik rarely appear at auction.

Wenzel Sedlák was the most important Viennese exponent of Harmoniemusik, arranging many operas for wind ensemble for Prince Liechtenstein.  Beethoven himself authorized Sedlák's transcription of Fidelio, the earliest published adaptation from the opera, and may even have supervised it (see R. Hellyer, in Music & Letters, 53, 1973, pp.242-253).   The manuscript arrangement of Gyrowetz's Agnes Sorel appears to have autograph title pages by Sedlák and may possibly have annotations in his hand.
