Catalogue Note

Originally published in Amsterdam in 1666-1668 and reissued here with a new title-page, this compendium of comets contains information about recent comets in volume I, notified by contemporary astronomers across Europe with whom Lubieniecki corresponded (any letters not in Latin have been translated), and those recorded in historical sources in volume II. Lubieniecki, a Polish aristocrat from Raków, was a Socinian who also wrote a history of the Reformation in Poland. His religious beliefs led to his expulsion from Poland and he died in Hamburg.
