Catalogue Note

Publication began in 1938 but paused after 1939 because of the Second World War. Rather than being a general review, XXe siècle had themed issues, covering individual artists (Kandinsky, Dalí, Gentilini) and subjects such as humanism, surrealism or Italian art.

Many issues contain original lithographs or woodcuts by various artists, including Mondrian, Arp, Miró, Braque, Ernst, Moore and Giacometti. The third issue for 1938 contains six coloured and monochrome woodcuts by Kandinsky, the issue for 1955 contains two coloured woodcuts by Marino Marini, and there is one by Sonia Delaunay in the 1956 issue.
