Catalogue Note
This fine bronze bust was produced by EMI to commemorate Menuhin's sixtieth birthday in 1976. On receiving his bust from EMI, Menuhin commented: "I think it's better than the original!" at which his quickwitted wife Diana commented: "Outside or in ?". Menuhin replied: "To discover that, you would need EMI's brain-scanner!". Austin Bennett joined EMI in 1965 and became a senior executive there, until he left to concentrate solely on sculpting. His works can be seen at the National Portrait Gallery, The Royal Opera House and Harewood House.
