first edition, with the one-page letter to Hr Agarsson, (Copenhagen, 5 January 1835), 138 pages, 8vo (c.16 x 10.5cms), printed wrapper with title on an elaborate blue background bound in, nineteenth-century cloth, gilt title to spine, spine somewhat sunned

Catalogue Note

Agnete og Havmanden (Agnete and the Merman) was published at the author's expense in 1834 (it actually appeared on 23 December 1833).  The poem was later set as a cantata by Niels Gade.
