Catalogue Note
First edition of this fundamental work for the history of the construction of Saint Peter's Basilica and for an understanding of early building practice. Zabaglia worked on the construction of the Basilica, and thanks to his talent for inventing machines to aid in the task, he achieved the status of engineer for the project. Here he illustrates his techniques, with the help of Giovanni Bottari and Lelio Cosatto. The plates also illustrate the renowned achievement of Domenico Fontana in re-erecting the Vatican obelisk.
