Condition

Structurally sound. There is minor surface dirt and dust to the crevices. There are isolated flecks of oxidisation visible to the surface, including to the bottom of the Virgin's back, her right hand and to the underarms of the Christ figure. There are several scratches to and around the hanging hole to the back of the mother figure, not visible when the work is hanging, with a smaller, slight scratch appearing to the right side of the Virgin's head. The halo of both the Virgin and Christ figure have been re-adhered to the sculpture at a later date (the halo of the Christ figure has been recently re-soldered by Plowden & Smith, London) , however this is only visible upon very close inspection, and does not detract from the overall appearance of the work. This excepting the work appears in very good condition. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present lot.
