Description
- Thomas Saunders Nash
- The nativity
- watercolour and pencil, squared for transfer
- 55 by 75cm.; 21½ by 29½in.
Condition
Paper not laid down, but adhered by a hinge in two places to the mount in the upper corners. There is cockling and slight undulation throughout the sheet. The sheet is unevenly cut. Squared for transfer, with a further, unfinished pencil study to the reverse.
Several pinholes are apparent in both the upper right and left hand corners, top centre, and at further intervals to the extreme edge. There is a tiny repaired tear along the left of the bottom edge, which is not visible in the current mount.
There are media marks and one or two additional small spots of staining, including an area to the sheep in the upper right hand quadrant, and further surface dirt and staining to the sheet with creases and scuffing throughout the extreme edge, hidden by the mount but visible when viewed from the reverse. This excepting the work appears to be in good condition.
Housed behind glass in a thin gilt frame, in an off-white mount.
