Condition

Stable board. There is dust and minor surface dirt to the work, most apparent in the thicker areas of impasto, such as on the horizon. There is a very minor fine vertical cracking throughout the white area in the top of the composition. This is noticeable upon closer inspection. There are also instances of fine paint separation apparent to the white pigment in the upper left hand quadrant. Ultraviolet light reveals three isolated spots of fluorescence and retouching along the extreme left hand edge, and a further three along the extreme right hand edge, each measuring less than 1 centimetre, and most probably in line with a previous framing. There are also some minor areas of fluorescence to the white sky in the upper left hand quadrant, in line with the aforementioned vertical cracking. There are one or two additional spots of flourescence to the darker pigments which may be retouching. Housed behind glass in a thick, 'distressed' effect varnished frame. Unexamined out of frame.
