Acquired in 1959 by Ravi Kumar of Kumar Gallery, New Delhi. From 1960 onwards the painting was kept with Mr Kumar's relatives in the UK

Catalogue Note

Along with his contemporaries, Kulkarni was inspired by primitive and folk art. Although his subject matter is derived from traditional subjects, his works contain a modernist sensibility, painted in a cubist, semi-abstract manner, rendered with spare, crisp modern lines over a flat pictorial surface.
