Catalogue Note

This iron-derived coral-red glaze was very rarely used on its own as a monochrome glaze colour, but a matching coral-red dish of the Jiajing period (AD 1522-66), also unmarked but from the Qing court collection, is in the Palace Museum, Beijing, see The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum. Monochrome Porcelain, Hong Kong, 1999, pl. 29; another iron-red bowl of similar form, but with the enamel more unevenly applied, was sold in these rooms, 15th November 1988, lot 152.
