The oval-shaped brooch of openwork design, set with two emerald-cut rubies weighing approximately 2.80 and 2.50 carats, accented by numerous old European and single-cut diamonds weighing approximately 9.15 carats, further decorated with four square-cut emeralds, signed Charlton; circa 1930.

Condition

In good condition. The rubies are a medium-deep slightly purplish red, lightly to moderately included with small surface-reaching feathers and cavities to both pavilions as well as some very minor chipping to the girdles visible under magnification. The color of the rubies more closely resembles that of the actual size picture in the printed catalogue. The diamonds are approximately H-J color, predominantly VS clarity with some VVS and SI examples. The emeralds are decorative in quality. With double scratch number 1826 on the reverse. Well made, with nice millegrain detailing throughout. Signed on small applied plaque on the reverse. Accompanied by AGL report no. CS 53851 A and B stating that the rubies are of Burmese origin, with no indications of heating.
