Description

  • platinum, gold, natural pearl, diamond
The garland-style necklace suspending 11 natural pearls measuring approximately 10.7 to 8.9 mm, accented by six old European-cut diamonds weighing approximately 7.15 carats, the earrings suspending two natural pearls measuring approximately 10.0 by 7.8 mm to 9.6 by 8.5 mm, both pieces set throughout with numerous old European, old mine and rose-cut diamonds weighing approximately 6.50 carats, necklace length 17 inches, seven diamonds missing; circa 1900.

Condition

As noted, seven small diamonds missing from the mountings of the button-shaped pearls. Both pieces in otherwise good condition. NECKLACE: The pearls are a very slightly silvery white and well-matched for color. The four button-shaped pearls and seven pearl drops present a predominantly satin-like luster and faint pink and green overtones. Two of the drops are slightly baroque when seen from the reverse, but otherwise the drops present only slightly modulated and wrinkled skins. All of the drops are drilled with four of them bearing mother-of-pearl inserts to cover the holes. The four larger diamonds are approximately I-K color, SI clarity. The smaller diamonds are near colorless and decorative in quality. EARCLIPS: The slightly baroque pearls match the body color of those in the necklace and present moderate purple and green overtones. Satin-like luster and wrinkled skins as typical for the type. The drill holes are filled with mother-of-pearl inserts and one has peeling skin. The tops appear to have been modified with the two second largest round diamonds being modern cuts; the clip backings of modern design. The two largest old European-cut diamonds are approximately I-K color, SI clarity. The modern round cuts are approximately G-H color, SI clarity, and the remaining diamonds are near colorless and decorative in quality.
