Green opal, or prase opal as it is sometimes known, is a rare type of fine bluish green translucent non-phenomenal opal which is colored by the mineral copper. Green opal has been mined from Iyobo Mountain in Tanzania for approximately 20 years, and has also been mined in limited quantities in Poland, Russia and Napa, California. Large, evenly colored stones such as the ones utilized in this demi-parure of jewelry are extremely rare and coveted by gem collectors.
