Description

The circular compact with a water dragon motif composed of resin, ivory and mother-of-pearl, framed by black enamel, turquoise, and cabochon rubies, opening to reveal a powder compartment and a mirror, measuring approximately 65mm x 65 mm x 12mm, signed Cartier London, New York, Paris and numbered, French assay mark.

Accompanied by Gem Tech short report no. 12-B-2368, stating that the rubies are of Burmese origin, with no indication of thermal treatment, that the dragon is made of black and red synthetic resin, and that the mother-of-pearl and ivory are of natural origin. French assay mark for 18 carat gold. Signed Cartier London, New York, Paris above mirror and numbered 0370 next to the inner lid. Few scratches and abrasions to black enamel on the top, more on the bottom consistent with use, evidence of retouching visible under close inspection. Black and red synthetic resin lifting in some areas with signs of possible repair. Little discolouration to the turquoise. Button clasp sometimes sticks. Signs of wear and tarnish to the metal consistent with wear and use. In good condition.
