Attractive sapphire and diamond bandeau, early 1930s

Set with three articulated oak leaves, each accented with a cabochon sapphire, the central a star sapphire, embellished with rose, circular-cut and cushion-shaped diamonds, fitted case by Rath Munich, two diamonds deficient.

The accompanying fitted case was painted by Princess Margarete Thurn und Taxis, dated Regensburg,1932.

Metal tested as platinum. Sapphires stated to measure approximately 12.60 - 12.90 x 8.40 mm, 19.00 x 15.75 x 10.55 mm and 16.05 x 11.90 x 10.75 mm, the central sapphire showing an indistinct six-rayed star, typical crystal inclusions visible under close inspection, few scratches, for further information, please refer to the Gübelin report. Diamonds estimated to weigh a total of approximately 34.00 - 36.00 carats, H-J colour, VS-SI clarity (few I). One larger and one smaller diamond deficient. Signs of normal wear to the metal, scratches consistent with use and age. In good condition.

The origins of the Princely House of Thurn und Taxis can be traced back to the Middle Ages. The family fortune was based on the founding of one of Europe's first, and most successful, postal systems. The Thurn und Taxis family is one of the wealthiest in Germany.

Schloss St. Emmeram, in Regensburg, for over 200 years the seat of the dynasty, dates to the 7th century and was originally a Benedictine abbey. At present it has over 500 rooms, more than Buckingham Palace.

Upon the death of Prince Johannes in 1990, the title passed on to his son, Prince Albert.
