Description

Comprising: a cigarette case, the rectangular cut-cornered onyx base, to a reeded lid decorated with Persian motifs in black enamel highlighted with rose diamonds, measurements approximately 82 x 55 x 15mm, signed Cartier, Paris, Londres, New York and numbered, French assay marks, maker's mark, British import mark for London, 1927, fitted case Cartier, London; together with a tortoiseshell comb and cover, the thumbpiece decorated with royal blue enamel and rose diamonds, signed Cartier, London, fitted case Cartier, London, 1920s and a lighter, each terminal of carved onyx, the baguette diamond thumpiece opening to an interior decorated with a coronet and inscribed Christmas 1930 in blue enamel, signed Cartier, Paris, fitted case Cartier, Paris.

Signed Cartier, Paris, Londres, New York, Made in France, numbered 6789. Onyx with very minor nicks. Enamel slightly scratched, polished surfaces slightly scratched. Diamonds bright and lively. Fitted case with scuffs to leather. Comb: Enamel in good condition. Diamonds bright and lively. Polished surfaces slightly scratched. Fitted case with slight scuffs and nicks to leather. Lighter: Stamped with French assay mark for platinum. Signed Cartier Paris, Made in France. Engraved coronet and inscription Christmas 1930 in dark blue enamel. Polished surfaces slightly scratched. Fitted case with ink pen marks to interior, embossed with a coronet to exterior. Collection in good condition.

Many of these items including Lot 488 below were given to Edith, Marchioness of Londonderry by Sir Philip Sassoon brother of Sybil, Marchioness of Cholmondeley.  He, like Laura Corrigan, was renowned for his beautiful and generous presents.
