Le texte latin est imprimé sur les pages de gauche en regard de la traduction française donnée par François Nodot. Celui-ci y a inclus des fragments nouveaux découverts à Belgrade, lesquels devaient cependant bientôt se révéler faux. La version de Nodot rencontra néanmoins un grand succès en raison de son érotisme explicite.
L’adresse fictive masque une publication clandestine parisienne ou grenobloise. La marque à la sphère sur la page de titre évoque directement les éditions apocryphes « chez Pierre Marteau ». Une seconde édition in-12 parut sous cette adresse la même année.
