Condition

This painting is still on its original stretcher. The paint layer is quite dirty, and although the painting has never been cleaned or varnished, it seems that a few retouches have been applied. There are some restorations beneath the eye on the right side of the head, a restoration in the back of the hand in the lower center, and retouches in the fingers of the same hand. There is possibly a small retouch on the far right of the forehead. There is also a retouch in the center of the background on the left side. The restorations are broadly applied and may be unnecessary, or at least greatly exaggerated. There is an unrestored loss in the elbow of the right arm and another in the ochre blanket on the back of the chair.
