Condition

The paint layer is stable overall. An area of paint loss and what appears to be an indentation to the surface is present in the upper right quadrant. Paint loss is also present on the left edge of the work (approximately 12 inches from the bottom edge) in the lower left quadrant. Under ultraviolet inspection, accretions appear in the center quadrant near the left edge (leg) of the central figure. Additionally, small circular areas fluoresce in the lower and upper left quadrants. Overall, this work is in very good condition.

Catalogue Note

From 1963 to 1968, Siqueiros embarked on his most ambitious project – the three dimensional mural – La Marcha de la humanidad , which encompassed 50,000 square feet. The present painting is an easel version of part of the mural depicting an animal – the mythological Nahuatl attacking a conquistador.
