Description

  • emerald, gold, platinum
Centring on an oval cabochon emerald weighing 32.78 carats, surround by brilliant-cut diamonds together weighing approximately 9.50 carats, accompanied by a link chain, mounted in platinum, length approximately 410mm, detachable ring fitting.

Condition

Colour and Clarity: According to both Gübelin and AGL reports, the cabochon emerald is natural, of Colombian origin, with no indications of clarity enhancement. Please refer to the reports for details. In our opinion, the cabochon emerald is medium intense green colour, slightly included to naked eyes with high degree of transparency and brilliance. Upon 10x loupe, there are natural crystals and fingerprint inclusions, very common in natural Colombian emerald. Diamonds in the surround are about G to H colours, VS clarity, lively brilliance. Condition: Platinum mount, with detachable ring fitting, in very good condition.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion. Illustrations in the catalogue may not be actual size. Prospective purchasers are reminded that, unless the catalogue description specifically states that a stone is natural, we have assumed that some form of treatment may have been used and that such treatment may not be permanent. Our presale estimates reflect this assumption.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.

Catalogue Note

Ring size: 5¾

Accompanied by Gübelin report numbered 11115018 and AGL report numbered CS 47136, dated 7 November 2011 and 14 November 2011 respectively, stating that the 32.78 carat emerald is natural, of Colombian origin, with no indication of clarity enhancement. Non-clarity enhanced emeralds are rare. Emeralds are commonly clarity enhanced to reduce the visibility of fissures.
