Condition

The stone has been painted to achieve a uniform base, including at the corners where the stone has peeled back. It has been adhered to a black velvet backing in the current framing and the back cannot be seen. There are a few minor, hairline cracks in the stone, notably along the right edge, and extending across the surface of the work. The picture surface is in generally good condition.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Catalogue Note

The inscription on this stone is to Levin Epstein, a publisher in Tel Aviv. Before the war, the publishing house was based in Warsaw. In Israel, they published the works of Sutzkever, illustrated by Chagall, as well as children's books and Yiddish stories.
