Description

  • Marie Laurencin

  • signed Marie Laurencin (upper left)
  • oil on canvas
  • 40.8 by 32.9cm., 16 by 13in.

Provenance

Acquired by the present owner in France circa 1955

Exhibited

Paris, Musée Galliera, Femmes d'hier et d'aujourd'hui, 1960, no. 78 (titled La Femme en bleu)

Condition

The canvas is not lined. There is a thick layer of varnish preventing the UV light from fully penetrating, but there does appear to be some retouching in places, mainly to the blue pigments. There is a small brown stain towards the centre of the right edge and a minute paint loss to the blue pigment in the lower right quadrant. Otherwise, this work is in overall good condition. Colours: Overall fairly accurate in the printed catalogue, though the whites are slightly warmer in the original.
