Condition

The image is contained in a penciled-in area; the size of the entire board is 6 3/4 by 7 1/4 in. The board is in generally good condition aside from foxing throughout and a repaired tear half-way up the left edge which extends 1/4 inch into the image along the left edge. Framed under glass.

Catalogue Note

The present lot is related to a series of illustrations for a translation of the Greek author Longus's Daphnis and Chloë, undertaken by Camille Pissarro and his eldest son Lucien in 1895 and abandoned by 1899. This work is a preparatory drawing for a Daphnis and Chloë illustration in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford.
