Condition

The canvas is lined and there is an uneven varnish which prevents the UV light from fully penetrating. Uv examination does, however, reveal some scattered small spots and lines of retouching in places, mainly to the sky and most prominently between the ship masts. There are some fine lines of circular craquelure, mainly to the upper half of the work. Otherwise, this work is in overalll good condition. Colours: overall fairly accurate in the printed catalogue, though lighter and brighter in the original.
