Purchased at the above sale by the present owner

Condition

The canvas is not lined and there is a lovely rich impasto to the yellow pigments. There is an uneven varnish. The reverse of the unlined canvas reveals a number of small repairs, though UV examination only reveals one small area of retouching to the upper right of the bouquet. There are intermittent pinholes running along the extreme left and upper edges and probably due to a previous stretching. Otherwise, this work is in overall fairly good conditon. Colours: Overall fairly accurate in the printed catalogue, though brighter in the original.

Catalogue Note

'Opulent lover of colour, Kisling turns it into the most submissive interpreter of his vibrant sensitivity. He uses it to reach chords of stunning sound' (Adolphe Tabarant, L'Oeuvre, Paris, 1924)
