Condition

Executed on cream wove paper, not laid down, and hinged to the mount in two places at the upper edge. All four edges are slightly unevenly cut. The sheet is slightly time-stained and there is a repaired pin-sized hole towards the lower right corner. There is some minor foxing in places, most of which is away from the image itself. There is a tiny area of paper skinning to the centre of the right edge and a fine scratch to the top of her green sash. Otherwise, this work is in overall good condition. Colours: Overall fairly accurate in the printed catalogue, though the paper tone is slightly warmer in the original and the colours more vivid.

Catalogue Note

'I love anything that glitters, precious stones that sparkle, fabrics that shimmer, beautiful women who arouse carnal desire [...] painting lets me possess all this most fully.'
