Together with a Patek Philippe presentation case and spare crystal. Accompanied by an Extract from the Archives confirming sale on November 11th, 1901.

The present lot was retailed by Critzer Bros of San Antonio, TX, a firm active at the turn of the last century. After the first railroad reached San Antonio in 1877, the booming city attracted and cultivated a newly minted monied elite that was keen to purchase luxury goods, such as Patek Philippe watches.

The present example, with its exceptionally crafted case, is a stunning example of the Art Nouveau style. Similar examples are illustrated in Huber, M., & Banbery, A., Patek Philippe Watches, Vol. II, Second Edition, p. 136, pl. 69 a., b., and p. 142, pl. 78 a., b.
For a nearly identical watch by Patek Philippe, see Sotheby’s New York, October 20th, 2009, lot 102.
